Pencil To Paper

Looking forward to 2024 (well, most of it really:}!!) In December, Jacob Sacks and myself went into Big Orange Sheep studios in Brooklyn to finish part 2 of a duo piano/drums record. We started with a session at Kaleidoscope in September 2022, which consisted of contextual improvisational formats, along with some electronic manipulation. Session 2 at Big Orange Sheep was recording music that I actually put pencil to paper and composed specifically for Jacob and myself. We are excited and shooting for an early spring ‘24 release. Be on the lookout for that, as well as upcoming duo performances in NYC and beyond. Many thanks for your support of the music, and hope to see y’all soon!!

The Road To Home

9.6.2023 

After a couple of decades of being a drumming-hermit-dad-composer in NYC the road beckons once again! I’ll be going out with Jennifer Wharton’s Bonegasm, with concerts in California and the Midwest this fall. Check out the dates and cities here!
The Wabi Sabi duo project is building with new tracks added regularly. Check in often - download and stream from the Deepdig Bandcamp page!
I’m also hoping to have some new music via formal format released by the winter! Stay tuned…
And of course, the Beanpot Lab education department is in full affect, with both in person and online sessions!

Thank you kindly (I think...) 2022! Let’s welcome 2023! Looking forward to releasing some new music soon... It’s been an enlightening endeavor to reconnect with a past ‘playmate’ pianist Jacob Sacks and explore a fully improvised duo format almost 20 years later. We’re currently mixing the duo session and shooting for a spring release date on the Deepdig label! 

        The Wabi Sabi duo sessions are in full go as well!… as I continue with several cohorts traveling into creative improvisational tracking territory for film and media. More to come from that project soon!…

      The Beanpot Lab is excited to start its 15th year of education in drum set and percussion study, as well as composition and electronic music production! We’re looking forward to old and new students cultivating a creative endeavor together! We’re also happy to announce that Deepdig Records has partnered up with several boutique film scoring houses, collaborating, scoring and syncing for commercial and independent film media! And yes, I am still in the midst of my duo endeavors… recording sessions are continuing at Kaleidoscope Sound in Union City, New Jersey.

Hello into the bright summer months (hopefully:/)

... We've been gearing up for a few new projects here... I’ve been working on live duo sessions with some of my favorite players in the hopes of releasing something in the coming months. It’s been great to get back to my deep instrumental roots and explore total unknown territory with some trustworthy compatriots! And as always, we’ve been mixing and producing here in the Bean Pot Lab! Everything from budding young songwriters, to producing singles with some of my friends. More to come... Very unfortunately the DIKSON live shoot was put on hold due to everyone’s busy touring schedule. We’re hoping to reschedule that as soon as possible. Best and be well!

LIVE STUDIO SHOOT w/ DIKSON AND THE AMBIENT SESSIONS EP...

Happy New Year! Some exciting projects for 2022!… We are starting pre-production on a live performance film featuring the DIKSON band! Shooting should start in the coming months! I am also hopeful to release my sleep sessions ambient EP this year! I have always believed that different kinds of music have different kinds of purposes in our soul. Although I’ve been a jazz musician and improviser as the core of my artistic life, I do have a very deep space in me listening to ambient music and drones. I feel the minimalism in that style of music can access us in ways that other music cannot. All music is a form of therapy, but I think ambient music cuts right to the chase of creating a vessel and a space in us that can be explored, expressed and used for healing.
